Lee County Jail Roster Overview
The official Lee County jail roster is the DCN inmate search portal linked from the Lee County Detention Facility page. It is the first place to check for a person held at the county jail after a local arrest, bond hold, court order, short sentence, or transfer hold. The roster has Current and Released controls, plus search tabs for Inmates, Charges, and Days. No login was observed during the research pass.
The roster does not replace the court file, the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction locator, the BOP locator, or ICE's system. It is a county jail record. It may show a mugshot, charge, court date, docket number, and bond field, but formal court records are maintained by the Judicial Branch and Clerk. Sentenced state prisoners are searched through NC DAC. That distinction matters in Lee County because Sanford Correctional Center sits in Sanford but is a state prison, not a county jail.
Use the Lee County Roster
Start with the county portal when the person may be in current Lee County Detention Facility custody or may have been released recently. A broad search often works better than a narrow one because the grid has column filters and wildcard-style filter help after results load. If the name is uncertain, View all inmates can be more useful than guessing at spelling.
- Open the Lee County DCN jail search portal and choose Current for someone believed to be held now.
- Select Released only when the person recently left the jail or when a current search fails.
- Use By name for a known person, By charge description for a known offense, or Days for recent bookings and releases.

- Confirm court dates in eCourts or with the Clerk because the jail page says some court dates may not show on the roster.

Lee County Inmate Profile Fields
A full profile gives the best record detail available through the public jail roster. It can show the booking photo, local identifiers, physical descriptors, admit date and time, housing location, confining agency, charges, offense date, court type, court date, docket number, bond, bond type, charging agency, and arresting agency. Do not treat these fields as a final court disposition. Prosecutors and courts may change charges after booking.

Lee County Booking Records
Lee County does not publish a full booking manual, but the roster and state law show the practical flow. A person is arrested or transferred under lawful process, brought to the Lee County Detention Facility, identified, photographed or fingerprinted where authorized, and entered into the jail system. North Carolina G.S. 15A-502 authorizes photographing and fingerprinting people charged with a felony or misdemeanor when arrested or committed to a detention facility.
The public profile is the visible result of that intake. It separates Admit Date from Offense Date, which is important when an old warrant or earlier incident causes a later booking. It also separates Charging Agency from Arresting Agency. Those agencies can differ, so a Lee County inmate record should not be reduced to one police department unless the profile says so.

The jail page says release file review is time-consuming and done for public safety. It also says detention staff are forbidden, for security reasons, from discussing when an inmate will be transported.
Lee County Visitation Records
The county published video-visit rules but did not publish a day-by-day visitation schedule in the accessible text. All video visits are limited to 20 minutes, with no exception. The provider is Pay Tel Communications, and the jail page says the fastest way to communicate with an inmate is by phone or messaging. A profile may also contain a visit notice, so eligibility can be record-specific.

Lee County Inmate Mail
Regular jail mail is sent to a scanning center, not the jail building. The envelope must include Lee County Detention Center, Inmate Name, Inmate ID Number, Facility ID Number: 5111, PO Box 18247, Greensboro, NC 27419. The return address must be complete and legible with the sender's first and last name. The jail page says mail missing those required elements will not be scanned, and physical mail is destroyed after processing.

When Lee County Search Fails
A missing roster result has several possible meanings. The person may not have been booked yet, may have been released, may be listed under a different spelling, may have moved to state prison, may be in federal custody, or may be in an immigration system. Call the jail at 919-718-4567 when the issue is immediate local custody. For older or not-online county records, use the Lee County public-record request route through the County Attorney.

State Federal and VINELink
For state prison custody, use the NC DAC offender locator. It searches state prisoners, probationers, and parolees and includes historical information back to 1972, but it does not include county jail records. Sanford Correctional Center records belong in this state system, not in the Lee County jail roster.
For federal custody, use the BOP inmate locator for BOP custody from 1982 to present. A federal pretrial detainee may be under U.S. Marshals custody before BOP placement, so absence from BOP is not always the end of the search.
